Confirmation at Peace

Pre-confirmation Course:

5th and 6th grade is pre-confirmation.  It is a Survey of the entire Old and New Testament.  The youth are able to put all the Bible Stories into a chronology and see how God is at work in the Salvation of the world from beginning to end.  Parts of the catechism are inserted in appropriate places.  Example: the story of Cain and Abel... "You Shall Not Kill."

Confirmation Course:

7th and 8th grade flip-flops the process... The Catechism is the basis of instruction and then appropriate Bible Stories are put in place as examples and ways of explaining the Ten Commandments, the three articles of the Apostles' Creed, the Lord’s Prayer, Confession, Baptism, and the Lord’s Supper.

 We desire each student to not only know about the Bible and the Small Catechism, ("head knowledge”), but our primary goal is that the youth develop a living active faith in their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, ("heart knowledge").

We strive toward:

 A) Spiritual growth and a strengthening of relationship with God;

 B) An attitude of service while building relationships with God's people in community.  Thus our instruction consists of:

    1.  Class (mostly held on Sunday Morning during Education Hour)

    2.  Retreats (the major fall retreat is at Camp Edwards)

    3.  Summer Camp  (one year a "Learning Camp" the next, a "Serving Camp")

The curriculum includes the student with a mentor.  The mentor tells their "faith story" while encouraging the youth to build and strengthen their own.  Family activities are also a vital part of the program, so that the families learn to talk about faith in the home.

Rite of Confirmation:

Youth are confirmed on Reformation Sunday in October after they start 9th grade.  There are many faith building and learning activities during the two months prior to confirmation and during the month of confirmation.

All classes are taught by the Pastors and Director of Christian Education.
