Refugee Program

Peace Lutheran has co-sponsored two refugee families along with Lutheran Social Services (LSS) of Milwaukee.

The Vucinic family is originally from Croatia. The family is made up of dad and mom, Dusko and Branka, two girls Bojana and Dajana and grandma Ljuba. They arrived in Milwaukee in June 2002 and recently became US citizens. (See related article in the October 2007 Peace Notes)

Mohamud Haji and wife Marian Osman came to Milwaukee in September of 2004 with their 5 children Hamarei, Mumina, Mohamud, Ali and Maslat. A sixth child, daughter Nuriya was born in January 8th 2008. They are Somali Bantu that had lived for 14 years in a Kenya refugee camp. All the children were born in the refugee camp and that was the only life they knew before coming to America.

Future Plans

Peace hopes to sponsor another family in the near future. Working with refugees is a very rewarding experience and requires someone with patience, flexibility and a sense of humor. The blessings far out weigh the sacrifice in this ministry. If you would like more information please see Marilyn Thompson.
